Size Guide

How to Find Out The Size
The size of the sunglass is usually displayed on the inside of the temple; if the size is not displayed here you may find it on the inside of the bridge. The size is usually displayed in three numbers that describe the Eye Size, Bridge Size and Temple Length (see above). All of our sunglasses have these sizes listed in the product description.

Sunglass Shapes

One of the most popular and recognised sunglass style in the world, Aviator sunglasses are an instant classic for both men and women. Originally introduced in 1936 by Ray-Ban, these were created to protect pilot’s eyes whilst flying in World War II, hence the name Aviator.

This sunglass icon has become synonymous with style and is a firm favourite with celebrities. Famously worn by Tom Cruise in Top Gun, aviators suit most face shapes and are possibly the easiest to wear sunglasses available.

A glamorous and graceful look, butterfly sunglasses are recognisable by a narrow bridge and a large, balanced lens. This is an ideal shape for ladies with a strong jaw line and a longer face. This is a classic look and incredibly popular with celebrities including Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie and Rhianna.

Cat Eye:
Cat Eye sunglasses are the epitome of feminine style from subtle feline flicks to dramatic points these are one of the most versatile sunglass shapes and suit most faces. Made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffanys, Cat Eye sunglasses have stood the test of time and are a chic and sophisticated style to compliment any face shape.

Characterised by frames that are wider than they are deep, rectangle sunglasses are ideal for people with round or oval faces. This a classic and versatile look for both men and women.

This is probably the most iconic shape of sunglasses and has remained popular ever since the 1920’s. Made famous by John Lennon round sunglasses have evolved into a style statement for both men and women. Round sunglasses work best for oblong or square face shapes but with a nod to the vintage a round sunglass will give any face shape a fashionable finish.

By adding contrast to soft facial features, square sunglasses are one of the most popular styles and is a timeless look. Square sunglasses are equally wide as they are deep and are ideal for people with round, oblong or oval face shapes.

Originally created in the 50’s by Ray Ban, the Wayfarer is the most popular sunglass in the world – along with the Aviator; and changed the sunglass world forever. A design classic, the wayfarer style is synonymous with cool. The wayfarer shape will suit everyone and will transform any look.

Sunglass Lens Technology

UV Protection
Everybody enjoys basking in the sunshine, but the invisible UV rays can cause damage to your eyes. Wearing sunglasses throughout the year will not only protect your eyes against harmful UV rays, but will keep your eyes looking younger for longer. All of the sunglasses at Eye Academy offer 100% UVA & UVB protection, with many of our collections also offering UVC protection.

Polarised Lenses:
Polarised lenses are coated with a unique chemical film that helps to greatly reduce glare. Light is made up of both vertical light and horizontal light, with vertical light being essential to the human eye to help us to see, horizontal light simply creates glare. Polarised lenses filter this horizontal light to neutralise glare as well as, reducing the harmful effects of UV light, giving you clearer, more comfortable vision.

Photochromic Lenses:

Photochromic sunglass lenses get darker when exposed to UV light. Sunglasses will start out with a light tint and then, when exposed to greater levels of UV they will become darker to provide more comfortable vision. All Photochromic lenses provide 100% UV protection and are available in a number of different colours.
