Spring Eyecare Tips

With Spring slowly making an appearance the warmer weather will be a nice change, but it’s that time of year again when you need to think about protecting your eyes to avoid the itching, watering and discomfort that the allergy season can bring.

These Spring Eyecare tips from our Eye Academy Specialists include everything you need to know to keep your eyes healthy this spring season.

1. Wash hands regularly

We all know by now how important it is to wash your hands but doing this also is also helps eyes stay healthy if you’re suffering from allergies. Springtime affects hay fever the most, making you prone to rubbing and itching your eyes, which in turn, makes you more likely to develop an eye infection.

2. Look for red flags

Red, swollen, itchy, and watery eyes are common symptoms of hay fever. But, if these symptoms persist even after using eye drops then book an appointment with us to ensure that these are not symptoms of dry eye, inflammation, or an infection.

3. Don’t over wear your contact lenses

If you are a Contact Lens wearer, over wearing your lenses can cause your eyes to become dry and irritated; this mixed with allergies and warmer weather can not only make your eyes uncomfortable but can cause damage to the eyes surface.

4. Wear Your Sunglasses

UV rays can cause a great amount of damage to your eyes, wearing Polarised sunglasses are the best option to not only protect your eyes but also filter out glare. Meaning you have higher clarity and comfort of vision in bright, sunny conditions.

5. Protect Your Children’s Eyes

Children’s eyes are more sensitive than adults, and sunglasses for children are often overlooked. Talk to one of our qualified Dispensing Opticians who will not only help find them the perfect style but will make sure they fit perfectly and provide the most protection possible.

Remember, we are always here if you have any questions or concerns about your eye health.
